Haiti Green Project is a nonprofit organization funded in 2008 by a group of professionals, after witnessing the devastation that took place when hurricanes Faye, Gustav, Hannah, and Ike hit the Caribbean nation of Haiti in the summer of 2008. We would like to influence sustainable practices by implementing the usage of natural resources. For years we’ve use fossil fuels like coal, oil and trees. These carbon based fuels release and cause greenhouse gas, deforestation, acid rain and global warming. Haiti, an island of revolutionary thinking, and an island that has an abundance of sun and wind, and surrounded by water and mountains can and will produce the renewable energy it needs; Energy that will sustain itself and be eco friendly enough to meet the needs of a growing Haiti. Haiti Green Projects’ focal point is to bring forth and introduce solar panels and wind turbines to schools, factories, hospitals and churches. Teaching our finest young men and women the basic skills on how to install and maintain these panels and those wind turbines. HGP will train these young women and men in the techniques of green roofing, vertical agriculture, composting which will become a supplemental source and organic way of fertilizing. Those skills in the long run will make them more competitive in the global market. Haiti for years has been an abandon house with no structure or foundation.Haiti Green Project believes that we can make a difference by lobbying the government to make new laws on deforestation and placing law enforcement to prevent environmental degradation, mudslides and lessened the devastation of hurricanes. HGP has a desire for the government to focus on ground breaking projects like drainage, sewage and sanitation not just for the city but for the rural area as well. We are inclined to look into new ways to generate fresh clean water; help our farmers with energy efficient planting, tools and push for green markets. We will create programs that will not only assist the farmers to find funding to improve their farms; we will also assist them to find way to increase their production. We are keen on building shelters for those who have no place to go after a hurricane. Recycling will be a factor in going green. Going green no longer complicates the future together we can create, rebuild and invest in our country by not only monetary donation but by faithfully committing yourself to change. Natural disaster and negligence’s has burden our country for years and HGP is clearly aware of Haiti’s urgent need for change.
